The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The name is a provocation. Endless Forest suggests something vast, a canopy that stretches on forever. But Jakub Pietrynka builds something more specific: a forest floor rather than a canopy, autumnal rather than spring-green, dry and slightly rotted. Cedarwood, papyrus, and leather form the opening, a textured trio that reads as bark and ancient paper rather than fresh pine. There's an unexpected sweetness underneath, like fruit left on stone, which gives the top notes a warmth that tempers their dryness. This deliberate choice creates immediate tension, especially for someone expecting that classic bright, aromatic forest opening. The name sets the expectation. The composition subverts it. That's the conversation Pietrynka started in 2019 with this debut.
What makes Endless Forest distinctive is how it refuses the expected forest fragrance logic. Most compositions in this territory open with bright, citrusy top notes before moving into green heart. This one leads with dry cedar, papyrus, and leather, a bark-and-paper trio that establishes an autumnal register from the first spray. The heart deepens with vetiver and patchouli, grounding the scent in earth rather than air. The base relies on Iso E Super, a synthetic material that provides a skin-like smoothness rather than natural depth, and white musk that extends longevity without projection.
The evolution
The opening arrives dry and textured. Cedarwood, papyrus, and leather announce themselves almost simultaneously, a bark-and-paper trio that resists the expected green freshness. There's a slight sweetness underneath, like dried fruit on stone, which gives the top notes a warmth that tempers their dryness. Cedarwood leads, papyrus adds an unexpected mineral depth, and leather threads through as a quiet undertone rather than a bold statement. The heart phase arrives within minutes. Vetiver and patchouli move to the foreground, creating an earthy, slightly sweet-bitter quality that feels simultaneously lush and grounded. This is where the forest floor reveals itself, humid, layered, alive with detail. Wet leaves, damp soil, mushrooms on fallen branches. The transition from opening to heart is less a dramatic shift and more a gradual deepening, as if the canopy has closed overhead and you're standing in the stillness beneath. The drydown strips back to Iso E Super and white musk, a clean, skin-like finish that extends longevity without projection.
Cultural impact
Since its 2019 launch, Endless Forest has found its audience among niche fragrance collectors who appreciate its subtle, contemplative nature. It's a distinctive choice for those seeking something quieter and more introspective than typical designer releases, a woodland composition that rewards patience over projection.
