The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Best Friends Forever arrived in 2018 as part of Jeanne Arthes' Petite Jeanne collection. The name does what it says. This is the scent of shared lip gloss, of swapping jackets at a bus stop, of two people who finish each other's sentences and apparently each other's perfume. The Petite Jeanne line skips the weight of formal perfumery and goes straight for color. There's a candy-shop brightness to the compositions, a willingness to lean on green apple and pineapple that more serious houses tend to avoid. Best Friends Forever is the purest expression of that impulse. It smells like a Saturday morning with nowhere to be, like a bracelet you made yourself and decided to wear out. What holds it together is the floral backbone.
What makes this composition worth a second look is how the pineapple sits inside the white floral heart. Pineapple in a floral heart is an old trick, but here the fruit reads as crispness rather than syrup. It adds a wet, lifted quality without pushing the whole composition into anything heavy or suntan-slick. The base does something quietly clever too. Heliotrope brings that almond-vanilla softness, and white iris gives it a cool, almost suede-like finish. The result is a drydown that feels more grown than the fruity opening suggests.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are all about that green apple. It's sharp, a little synthetic in the best way, like biting into a Jolly Rancher that someone left in the fridge. The freesia softens the edges but doesn't tame the brightness. Around the thirty-minute mark, the pineapple shows up and the whole thing tilts tropical for a moment. Jasmine and lily of the valley flood in behind it, and the composition goes creamy-floral. This is the loudest phase, the one that registers from across a table. By hour two, the florals start to pull back and the base takes over. Heliotrope's powdery almond warmth settles in alongside the iris, and what started as a bright, fruity burst ends as something softer and slightly more sophisticated. The drydown is the surprise: warm, skin-like, faintly sweet, and still detectable on the wrist later in the day.
Cultural impact
Best Friends Forever is a fragrance that knows exactly what it wants to be, and that's the appeal. It's bright, it's fruity, it's floral, and it doesn't pretend otherwise. The composition reads as a gift between friends, a first solo purchase, a Saturday morning scent. It doesn't reach for art-house territory and doesn't need to. The brightness does the talking, and the florals keep it grounded. There's a particular kind of ease to a fragrance like this. It doesn't demand attention, but it earns it anyway.
