The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Vesen Life arrived in 2016, and from the pyramid alone, the brief reads clearly: lead with fruit, give the florals room to breathe, then anchor everything in a warm, edible base. Wild berries and mandarin open the door with their tart, juicy lift, a burst of red-fruit brightness sharpened by citrus zest. The berries carry a jammy roundness that makes the opening feel generous rather than sharp. Jasmine, orange blossom, and ylang-ylang settle you into what feels like a sunny afternoon. The jasmine brings a creamy, almost indolic sweetness, while orange blossom softens the edges with its soapy, honeyed lift. Ylang-ylang layers in something denser, a full-bodied floral note that gives the heart phase weight and presence.
What makes this composition work is the ylang-ylang decision. In a fruity-floral brief, ylang-ylang adds a dense floral depth that prevents the berries from reading as candy alone. It bridges the juicy opening and the creamy base, giving the heart phase a fullness that ties everything together. The note carries a banana-like sweetness and a slight custard richness that reads warm even when the fruit is still loud on top. The sugar-and-tonka pairing in the base is the other anchor.
The evolution
The opening belongs to wild berries and mandarin, tart and glossy, with a citrus sparkle that makes the fruit read brighter than it is. The berries bring a layered sweetness, somewhere between fresh-picked and just-cooked jam, while the mandarin cuts through with a sharp, peel-bright zing that keeps everything lifted. There's a candied quality here, but the citrus prevents it from cloying. As the composition warms on skin, the jasmine and orange blossom arrive, and the scent shifts from purely fruity into floral-fruital territory. The jasmine brings its creamy, slightly animalic sweetness, while orange blossom adds a lathered, almost soapy softness. Ylang-ylang adds weight underneath, a banana-like fullness that grounds the airy florals and gives them something to lean against.
Cultural impact
Vesen Life occupies a recognizable space within the fruity-floral landscape, a composition built around accessible sweetness and warm, edible base notes. It doesn't court controversy or critical debate, and that accessibility is part of its appeal. The fragrance offers a lighter register that prioritizes approachability over edge, leaning into the joy of bright fruit and creamy florals rather than darker or more challenging territory. The composition reads as a celebration scent, something to wear when you want to feel lifted rather than mysterious.
