The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Sunshine & Me launched in 2021 as part of ISAK's Royal Awadh Collection. The name reads like a private confession, and the composition backs it up: a bright citrus-marine opening that resolves into spiced florals and a cedar-patchouli base. That opening has the cool, slightly saline quality of air after rainfall, and the citrus reads as fresh lemon zest rather than candied peel, keeping the whole thing lifted rather than syrupy. As the first half hour passes, the marine accord doesn't disappear so much as it sinks under the surface, letting the clove and nutmeg push forward with a gentle, warm spice that rounds out the brightness.
What's interesting here is the marine-lemon pairing working against a warm spicy heart. Most citrus fragrances stay linear, bright all the way through. This one lets clove and nutmeg do the heavy lifting in the middle, which gives the opening an unexpected gravity as it fades. The cedarwood and patchouli base then strips back the sweetness and keeps the whole thing from drifting into shampoo territory. The result is a scent that reads fresh on first contact but finishes with the kind of warmth you associate with skin, not cologne. A composition that moves instead of landing in one place.
The evolution
The first 15 to 20 minutes are almost entirely lemon and marine, cool and slightly saline, like stepping into a courtyard right after rain. The lemon reads bright and clean, not candied, and the marine accord carries a soft saltiness that gives the opening its airy lift. Gardenia arrives quietly through the opening, adding a soft floral cushion that keeps the citrus from going sharp. It's a subtle presence at first, more felt than noticed, weaving itself beneath the brighter notes and giving the composition a rounded, almost creamy undertone before it fully announces itself. By the 30-minute mark, clove and nutmeg push through with a gentle, baking-spice warmth that changes the mood of the scent. The marine note doesn't vanish; it recedes into the background, carrying salt under the spice like a base note wearing a hat.
Cultural impact
Sunshine & Me sits in the lighter register of ISAK's lineup, offering a daily-wear option that feels distinct from many of the heavier compositions typically associated with Indian niche perfumery. The marine-citrus approach gives the scent an airy quality, the kind of freshness that reads almost aquatic in the opening, cool and clean against the skin before the warmer notes settle in. That brightness contrasts with what many wearers expect from the broader Indian niche landscape, where denser, resinous compositions often take center stage.
