The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
5th & Always comes out of a Lucknow tradition that long predates the brand name on the label. ISAK draws on the perfume craft of Lucknow, a city whose attar history runs deep, and channels that inherited knowledge into modern compositions. This particular scent takes the classic rose and reimagines it through an Indian lens, treating the flower as something with presence and weight rather than something airy and incidental. Jasmine carries the top notes, lending sweetness and lift, while sandalwood anchors the base with warmth and creaminess. The composition never apologizes for itself; it simply opens and holds. The name suggests something meant to stay, and the scent behaves accordingly, lingering in the room long after the wearer has moved on.
What's interesting here is the restraint. The formula keeps things tight, no fireworks, no exotic flourishes beyond what the notes themselves provide. The jasmine and rose do the heavy lifting at the opening, then the vetiver and musk pull the whole thing toward something grounded and less decorative. The sandalwood and amber base is where the craft tradition shows up, not through any loud reference point, but through the quiet warmth and depth that quality sandalwood brings to a composition.
The evolution
The opening belongs to jasmine, sweet and creamy, with rose riding underneath like a second melody that refuses to hide. The florals announce themselves and hold their ground, neither polite nor apologetic. As the composition moves forward, the vetiver arrives and shifts the mood from purely romantic to something more architectural, more structured. The musk softens the edges, and what was lush becomes warm and tactile. By the drydown, you're in the sandalwood-amber territory, a stage where the scent pulls close, powdery in a good way, the kind of warmth that settles into fabric and skin and stays there. After the first stretch of bold projection, the fragrance settles into a quieter register, but it never truly disappears.
Cultural impact
5th & Always sits in an interesting space, rooted in the perfume traditions of Lucknow but composed with a wider audience in mind. It wears as romantic without feeling dated, floral without being delicate, and carries itself with the kind of quiet confidence that suits both dedicated fragrance lovers and those just beginning to explore the category. The rose feels classic, the jasmine feels alive, and the whole composition reads as confident without being loud. It's the kind of scent that introduces itself without raising its voice, then stays in the room long after the conversation has moved on.
