Heritage
A house, in its own words
ISAK traces its roots to a fragrance business established by the Vijayvergiya family in Lucknow more than a century and a half ago. What began as a trade in attars and traditional Indian perfume materials evolved through generations into a quiet mastery of aromatic raw materials. Vidushi Vijayvergiya grew up immersed in this world, learning the nuances of Indian perfumery from her family. Rather than allowing the legacy to fade, she chose to relaunch the family enterprise under the name ISAK in 2016, formalizing what had long been a craft-based pursuit into a contemporary fragrance house. Her co-founder, Chhunnamal Vijayvergiya, joined her in building the brand around niche Indian artisanal perfumery. The brand gained wider visibility when Vidushi appeared on Shark Tank India and secured investment from Peyush Bansal, a milestone that helped ISAK expand its reach beyond Lucknow. Today ISAK operates as an online-first label, positioning itself as a bridge between forgotten Indian aromatic traditions and the global niche perfume community. The founders often speak of the brand as an act of cultural preservation, rooted in resilience and a desire to share heritage-grade Indian perfumery with a new generation. ISAK approaches fragrance as a living archive of Indian aromatic culture. The house seeks to elevate ittar from a regional curiosity to a celebrated form of niche perfumery, treating every composition as both an artistic expression and a piece of cultural memory. Vidushi has described the brand's purpose as reviving forgotten Indian olfactory traditions while making them relevant for contemporary wearers who value craft over mass production. The creative vision centers on rarity, authenticity, and locality. ISAK works primarily with materials tied to the Indian subcontinent, drawing on a botanical palette that includes flowers, woods, and resins long associated with the subcontinent's perfumed past. Rather than chasing trends, the house builds each release around a story rooted in heritage, whether that means referencing Mughal-era attar traditions, temple rituals, or regional floral harvests. The result is a catalog that feels distinctly Indian without leaning on exoticism. ISAK frames luxury as provenance and patience, qualities the founders believe the modern niche audience is actively seeking.
