The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Magico Imperial #02 for Him arrived in 2015 as part of Imperial's debut pair, launched alongside its feminine counterpart as the brand's first statement in men's fragrance. The Italian label designed #02 to evoke nature and mountain woods, drawing on transparency and lightness as guiding principles, then wrapping them in a minimalistic bottle. The concept was simple: a clean, open entry into a more grounded, aromatic world. Citrus and woods do the talking, with an Eau de Toilette formulation that keeps the scent present without overwhelming the wearer in those opening hours. The numbered designation framed the release as part of an intentional set, marking a clear starting point in the line.
What makes the composition worth a second look is the tension between its clear, almost weightless opening and the dense material waiting underneath. The citrus layer, lemon, mandarin, and orange, is built to feel like altitude, thin and bright and fast-moving. Then the heart introduces black orchid, an unexpected player that shifts the composition's register toward something more shadowed and complex. The cinnamon adds warmth without sweetness, a dry heat that bridges the airy top to the earthy base.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes are almost aggressive in their clarity. Lemon and mandarin arrive sharp and uncomplicated, the kind of opening that feels like cold water on a warm morning. There's no softness to negotiate yet, just clean citrus moving fast. By the 30-minute mark, the jasmine and black orchid begin to surface, and the composition changes register. The orchid gives the heart a smoky dimension that you wouldn't predict from the opening, darkening the florals without burying them. Cinnamon threads through without turning the whole thing into a bakery, lending a dry warmth that keeps the sweetness in check. Two hours in, the base takes over. Myrrh arrives with a resinous weight, patchouli grounds everything with a dry earthiness, and sandalwood rounds it out. The drydown reveals the warmer, denser side of the composition, the wood and balsam settling into a quieter groove.
Cultural impact
Released in 2015 as part of a limited debut pair, Magico Imperial #02 for Him established the brand's first statement in men's fragrance, pairing a clean, mountain-woods concept with a minimalistic bottle presentation. The numbered designation placed it within an intentional duo, marking the label's entry into the category with a companion release for women. The citrus-to-smoke arc, from transparent top to resinous base, gave the release a structure that rewarded repeat wear, and the stripped-back bottle design matched the restraint of the juice inside.
