The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Richard Herpin designed Wave for Him in 2016. The fragrance opens with bright citrus notes that feel clean and immediate. The florals arrive in the heart, adding a soft, warm layer without being heavy or overwhelming. As the top notes fade, the base notes of driftwood and salt provide a grounding quality that lingers on the skin. The citrus is sharp and tart at first, creating an energetic opening that doesn't feel synthetic or harsh. The floral mid-section adds balance, bringing a gentle sweetness that prevents the composition from feeling too austere. The drydown with its woody and saline elements creates a smooth, natural finish that feels complete. The overall structure moves cleanly from bright to warm to grounded, with each stage clearly defined yet seamlessly connected.
What makes Wave for Him interesting is the structure. The bamboo leaf adds a green, slightly aquatic nuance that keeps the opening from reading too generically citrus. The lavender in the heart adds texture, a quiet herbal quality that provides contrast to the bright top notes. The neroli surfaces after the citrus fades, a delicate floral that gives the heart an unexpectedly soft quality. The salt in the base provides an interesting contrast to the sweeter elements, adding depth and preventing the drydown from feeling flat.
The evolution
The opening is where Wave for Him earns attention. Yuzu and grapefruit arrive together, sharp and tart with a fresh-aquatic quality. The bamboo leaf lingers just long enough to keep the citrus from feeling ordinary. Thirty minutes in, the citrus begins to thin and the heart takes over: cypress and lavender create a warm, textured middle section that doesn't lean into synthetic territory. The neroli surfaces last, a whisper of white floral that adds unexpected softness without dominating. The drydown is where this fragrance makes its case. Driftwood and salt arrive together, with musk and tonka bean softening the edges. On fabric, it takes on a warm, slightly woody character with a subtle saline trace. On skin, it stays close and intimate, gradually fading to a faint trace that lingers pleasantly.
Cultural impact
Wave for Him is designed for warm weather and easy occasions. It offers a fresh, clean scent profile without being overpowering or heavy. The fragrance works well for everyday situations where a lighter scent is more appropriate than a statement fragrance. It brings a pleasant presence that feels natural rather than forced, with a balanced composition that moves from citrus brightness through a soft floral heart to a grounded base.
