The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Soupir des Songes translates loosely as a sigh of dreams, and the composition is built around exactly that feeling: something half-remembered, half-invented. Released in 2026, it introduces bright citrus and florals at the surface, smoky oud and resinous balsam underneath, the whole thing held together by a woody, mossy base that refuses to let the dream dissolve entirely. The opening flashes with lemon and orange blossom, quick and almost conspiratorial, as if the scent is leaning in to tell you something before it commits to the long story underneath. The heart moves into iris cushioned against oud and Peru balsam, a powdery, smoky passage that feels less like a statement and more like a held breath.
What makes the composition unusual is the placement of oud. Rather than loading it into the base where it typically does its heaviest work, the perfumer places it in the heart, cushioned by iris on one side and Peru balsam on the other. That positioning gives the oud a quieter job to do. It reads as smoke filtered through something soft and translucent, present but never demanding. The geranium and orange blossom opening is almost a gentle distraction, bright enough to wake you up, floral enough to hint at what's coming, but not the main event.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes belong to the top: geranium and lemon doing their bright, slightly soapy dance, with orange blossom threading through like a ribbon. The citrus fades faster than you'd expect, almost politely, making room for iris to take over. That iris phase is the longest stretch, powdery and cool, with oud surfacing gradually beneath it, not as a blast but as a slow warmth, Peru balsam adding a faint sweetness that keeps it from going austere. By hour two the iris has mellowed into something warmer, almost skin-like, and the base begins to surface: oakmoss first, damp and green, then patchouli, then sandalwood smoothing the whole thing out. The transition from heart to base happens slowly enough that you catch yourself checking whether anything has changed, and then realizing the whole landscape has shifted while you weren't paying attention.
Cultural impact
Soupir des Songes launched exclusively at Printemps NYC, a tightly scoped debut that treats the fragrance less like a retail rollout and more like a private viewing. The composition leans on an iris-and-oud pairing, a combination that has become something of a signature structure in contemporary niche perfumery, but the execution here keeps the oud restrained and the iris powdery rather than heavy. That restraint gives the fragrance a particular character: it's an iris-oud that never pushes past the boundary of accessibility, and the powdery quality of the iris keeps the whole composition feeling lifted rather than dense.
