The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Some concepts arrive fully formed. Haught, Cool & Vicious was three words Jarekhye Covarrubias had to resolve architecturally, three contradictory qualities that shouldn't occupy the same sentence, let alone the same bottle. Haught demands presence. Cool demands distance. Vicious demands... something else entirely. The challenge wasn't just combining them. It was making each one earn its place in the composition. Ash brought cold. Mint brought cool. Vanilla brought warmth. Birch smoke and juniper brought the vicious. Each material had to pull double duty, and the vanilla, present in both top and heart, became the connective tissue that kept the whole structure from falling apart.
Vanilla in a smoky fragrance is either a bridge or a distraction. Here it does both. Present at opening, returning in the heart, it threads through the composition rather than sitting in one place. The ash and mint open cold and sharp, then the vanilla arrives warm, but mint keeps things grounded, smoke keeps things interesting, and birch-juniper in the base keeps the whole thing close to skin. The tension never fully resolves. That's the point.
The evolution
On skin, the opening hits cold and mineral, ash that reads almost ozone-sharp, the kind of cold that has nothing to do with temperature. Mint arrives within minutes, cutting through the sweetness before it can settle, keeping the first hour sharp and unresolved. Then smoke takes over as the dominant force. Not aggressive, smoky, but restrained, the way smoke clings to leather rather than fills a room. Vanilla stays in the background now, warmth that the smoke keeps at arm's length. The drydown is juniper and birch, close to skin, lasting for hours on fabric. This is the part that stays. Not loud. Just unwilling to leave.
Cultural impact
Haught Parfums crafts fragrances that challenge expectations through unexpected combinations. Perfumer Jarekhye Covarrubias designs each composition to layer contrasting elements, creating tension and complexity rather than straightforward pleasantness. In the collection, smoke and vanilla interweave, their interaction producing both darkness and sweetness in tension. These scents demand attention and invite exploration, rewarding those who engage with their full evolution on skin.
