The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The story of Aqua Allegoria Granada Salvia begins with a walk through warm Andalusian gardens. Thierry Wasser and Delphine Jelk composed this fragrance in 2020 as part of the Aqua Allegoria line, Guerlain's collection that celebrates nature's wonders and beautiful raw materials. The brief was simple: pomegranate and sage. The ruby-red fruit at its center, sage as the aromatic counterpoint. Blackcurrant, lemon, and bergamot gave it that citrus brightness. Cypress and rose built the heart. White musk, moss, and patchouli brought the warm, close drydown. Available in 75 ml and 125 ml Eau de Toilette.
What makes this composition work is the tension between pomegranate and sage. Pomegranate is sweet-tart, juicy, almost edible. Sage is camphorated, green, slightly bitter. Together they create something that feels Mediterranean rather than generic. The citrus at the opening is bright and immediate, but the pomegranate-sage combination is what gives the fragrance its character. Cypress adds a cool, woody quality that reads as Mediterranean rather than aquatic. Rose softens everything without making it pretty. The result is a fragrance that feels sun-warmed without being heavy, fresh without being synthetic, and herbal without being medicinal.
The evolution
The opening is tart and bright. Blackcurrant hits first, then lemon and bergamot, a burst of citrus that feels like sunlight. The pomegranate arrives within minutes, sweet-tart and juicy, the ruby fruit at the center of everything. Sage follows, green and camphorated, preventing the pomegranate from becoming too sweet. Cypress appears next, cool and woody, the Mediterranean pine note that tempers the fruit's warmth. The drydown is intimate. White musk wraps around moss and patchouli, creating an earthy, slightly herbal base that stays close to the skin, its green, fresh character lingering softly throughout the wear.
Cultural impact
The 2020 release joined the Aqua Allegoria line, Guerlain's continuously renewed collection celebrating nature's wonders. Community ratings show it performs best in spring and summer, with moderate sillage that stays close to the skin rather than filling a room. Pomegranate is the standout note, distinctive and memorable in a category where fresh fragrances often blur together.
