The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Améthyste Sereine takes its name from the amethyst, a gemstone prized since antiquity for its calming violet hues. GRAHAM & POTT translated that sense of serene depth into a fragrance composition, building from a fruity opening through an intensely floral heart to a warm, powdery base. The violet tones of the stone inspired a palette of rich, cool florals that feel both regal and approachable. There's a deliberate tension between the freshness of the top notes and the depth that emerges as the scent settles, creating a fragrance that feels both luminous and grounded, like light filtering through colored glass.
The heart of this fragrance is where GRAHAM & POTT made their statement. Jasmine from Grasse brings its full richness, the slightly animalic sweetness that can border on indolic in the best possible way. Lily of the valley adds a cleaner floral note beneath the jasmine, creating contrast within the white floral landscape. The density of these florals is substantial, a lush white floral presence that asserts itself without apology.
The evolution
The opening is tart and bright, blackcurrant and lemon providing an immediate fruity bite that announces the fragrance's arrival. Bergamot follows, adding its characteristic citrus brightness. As the top notes begin to settle, the florals emerge with increasing presence, jasmine and lily of the valley forming a dense white floral heart. The combination creates a lush, opulent mid-section that commands attention. As time passes, the fruity top notes fade and the floral heart becomes the dominant presence, supported by a warm vanilla that slowly makes itself known. The base notes of sandalwood and patchouli provide grounding, keeping the composition anchored and preventing it from floating away from the skin entirely.
Cultural impact
Améthyste Sereine occupies a distinctive space among floral fragrances, offering a density that sets it apart from lighter alternatives. The jasmine-lily heart is lush and confident, unapologetically rich in a way that appeals to wearers seeking depth rather than discretion. It wears particularly well in cooler months when its warmth can unfold without competition from the environment, revealing its full complexity layer by layer.
