Why it exists.
The beginning
Rabdan is a 2026 composition by Quentin Roussel, built around a fig heart and a sandalwood base that give the formula a steady, grounded feel from the first spray. Rather than rushing into sweetness or leaning on ornament, Roussel has constructed a fragrance that anchors its brighter top notes into something weightier underneath. The fig sits at the center of the composition, surrounded by geranium and lily of the valley that keep its green edge readable without letting it collapse into jam. At the base, Indian sandalwood, ambergris, and oud do the heavy lifting, giving Rabdan a warmth that builds slowly across the first hour rather than arriving all at once.
Placing geranium and lily of the valley alongside the fig softens the green edge without losing it, and the combination keeps the heart from tipping into the syrupy territory that fig can fall into when left unsupported. The base then takes over with Indian sandalwood, ambergris, and oud grounding the brighter top notes into something warm and lasting. Each of those base materials brings its own texture: the sandalwood adds a creamy, almost milky smoothness, the ambergris introduces a salt-warm minerality, and the oud drops in a darker, resinous undertone that anchors everything underneath.
The evolution
The first 20 minutes are bright and almost sharp. Bergamot and mandarin lead, pink pepper and cardamom crackle underneath, and the fig is barely a whisper yet. By the one-hour mark the green note has taken over, cool and slightly creamy, with geranium adding a herbal edge that keeps the fig from going jammy. Something shifts around the three-hour mark. The wood begins to surface, Indian sandalwood first, then the oud arrives underneath, darker than expected, with ambergris giving it a salt-warm sheen. From there the composition settles into its deeper register, with the sandalwood and oud trading turns at the foreground while the fig recedes into a soft green memory in the background. The ambergris ties the woods together with that briny, skin-like warmth, preventing the base from feeling heavy or resinous.

Rabdan wears like a quiet statement piece, the kind of fragrance that reads as understated until someone close leans in and asks what it is. The green fig heart gives it a distinctive center that sets the tone without leaning on the heavier, more resinous materials that tend to dominate similar compositions.
