Why it exists.
The beginning
Meravigliosa arrived in 2022 as part of Furla's growing fragrance conversation. The name says it. Wonderful, in Italian, with the feminine weight that changes the word entirely. Perfumer Alexandra Monet built the composition around fruit that knows how to behave itself, leather that never overpowers, florals that let the spice speak first. A confident architecture, each element given room rather than crowded into the frame. Furla's world has always been leather goods, the architecture of the arch, the confidence of Italian design worn without ceremony. Meravigliosa extends that into scent. The opening carries a raspberry brightness sharpened by saffron's dry heat, a fruit note that refuses to soften into something sugary or forgettable.
What makes this composition work is the sequencing. Raspberry and saffron open together, and saffron is the move that elevates it past simple fruit. Rose absolute in the middle is chosen, not decorative, paired with leather to give the floral a backbone. The base of patchouli and sandalwood grounds without darkening. It's a careful balance, and the accords confirm the intention. Leathery and fruity lead, but powdery and spicy thread underneath, pulling sweetness toward something more architectural. The result reads modern, composed, built to last past the opening.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are bright, almost sharp. Raspberry sweetness cut by saffron's dry, almost peppery edge, the kind of fruit that hasn't gone soft yet. It smells like something you want to lean into. The saffron gives the opening a golden flicker, something almost resinous beneath the sweetness, and the combination reads as confident rather than sweet. Then the rose absolute rises, and with it the leather note arrives not as a jacket but as the inside of one, the suede lining, warm and a little powdery. The fruit steps back but never disappears. It becomes the sweetness underneath the floral rather than the headliner. You catch the rose in waves, rising and settling, and the leather wraps around it without smothering. Patchouli settles in over the next hour, woody and slightly earthy, and the sandalwood softens everything into something close to skin.
Cultural impact
Meravigliosa keeps its sweetness disciplined. The fruit is sharp rather than syrupy, the leather is worn rather than new, and the florals stay grounded enough to feel modern. There's a restraint in the composition that sets it apart from more ornate Italian releases, a lightness that makes it wearable from morning to evening without ever feeling out of place. The raspberry-saffron opening carries a brightness that reads as contemporary rather than retro, and the way the leather settles into something suede-soft rather than aggressive gives the whole composition a worn-in quality from the start.
