Heritage
A house, in its own words
Furla traces its origins to 1927 when Aldo Furlanetto opened a leather manufacturing workshop in Bologna, Italy. What began as a modest operation producing fashionable leather goods evolved steadily through the mid-twentieth century, with the family maintaining direct involvement in the business across generations. The brand established itself in the luxury accessories market, developing expertise in craftsmanship and materials that would later inform its expansion into complementary product categories. As the company grew, Furla maintained its Italian roots while developing an international retail presence. The diversification into perfumery represented a significant strategic move, allowing the house to extend its brand identity beyond leather into lifestyle categories. The partnership with Mavive, a Venice-based perfume company founded in 1982, enabled Furla to enter fragrance production with established industry expertise. This collaboration produced the house's first dedicated perfume collection, marking nearly a century of brand history with a new creative dimension. Furla's heritage remains anchored in its Bolognese origins, with the city serving as a symbolic touchstone for the brand's identity even as global distribution expanded.
Furla approaches fragrance creation by translating its leather goods design philosophy into sensory experiences. The brand's aesthetic draws heavily from Italian architectural heritage, particularly the arch form that appears across Furla's visual identity and physical retail spaces. This architectural inspiration manifests in fragrance naming conventions and packaging concepts, connecting the perfume line to broader Italian cultural traditions. The house positions its scents as accessible luxury items, aiming to offer quality craftsmanship at price points below traditional haute parfumerie. This positioning reflects Furla's historical approach to the leather goods market, where the brand carved out space between mass-market producers and ultra-luxury houses. The fragrance collection emphasizes femininity and Italian sensibility, with scent profiles ranging from floral to fruity to woody variations. Each fragrance release follows seasonal or annual cycles, allowing the brand to maintain fresh engagement with fragrance consumers while building an extensive portfolio over recent years.
