The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Dormir al Sol translates to sleeping in the sun. The name itself captures a certain mood, an afternoon where the warmth is doing the work for you. Mimosa absolute is the unusual choice here, not a common material in mainstream perfumery, and it gives the composition its signature softness. Combined with cognac and the earthy base, this is the kind of fragrance you reach for when you've earned a rest.
The pairing of mimosa and brandy sounds unusual on paper, but in practice it's seamless. Brandy adds body without sweetness, while mimosa absolute, rich, powdery, almost hay-like, softens the edges of the woody base. Bourbon vetiver, patchouli, and saffron in the base give the composition its staying power. This is a fragrance that knows how to linger without demanding attention. The guaiac wood provides a smoky sweetness that bridges the florals and the earth perfectly.
The evolution
The opening is bright and citrusy, lime and mandarin orange with a hit of black pepper. It arrives quickly and doesn't apologize for itself. Within twenty minutes, the mimosa starts to take over, pushing the citrus to the background and introducing something powdery, warm, almost skin-like. The brandy arrives shortly after, bringing an amber quality that feels like late afternoon light. The drydown is where this fragrance earns its name. The guaiac wood, vetiver, and patchouli come forward slowly, creating a smoky, earthy base that sits close to the skin. The saffron lingers longest, a subtle spice that threads through the entire composition.
Cultural impact
Dormir al Sol appeared at ESXENCE 2024 and was noted among the best releases of the show. The fragrance stands out for its unusual palette, mimosa, cognac, and saffron aren't a typical trio. The combination gives it a character that feels both intimate and distinctive, the kind of scent that makes you reconsider what a woody fragrance can do.
