Extreme Aoud

The interesting choice here is the layering of white pepper and cinnamon in the opening, both of them sharp in different registers, with clove underneath adding a medicinal warmth. That trio is doing a lot of work before the floral heart even arrives. The rose that follows has presence, leaning into the saffron and geranium for a dense texture the community describes. The base then leans on three woody materials: cedar, sandalwood, and the broader woody note category, each contributing its own character to the foundation.

The evolution

The opening phase carries citrus and spice in close quarters, with the citrus notes doing their bright, slightly bitter thing while cinnamon and clove warm everything from underneath. White pepper doesn't sit politely in the background. The heart phase arrives as the rose hits harder than expected, leaning dark rather than clean and dewy. Saffron threads through it, adding a leathery texture that blurs the line between floral and animal. Eventually the florals step back and the oud begins to speak, smoother and sweeter than the barnyard varieties, sitting on the skin like polished wood. Leather and sandalwood take over the drydown, and the musk underneath keeps everything close to the body. As the hours pass, what's left is a warm, woody trace of sandalwood and musk. On fabric, there's still a ghost of rose, hanging on in a faded but unmistakable way.
