The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
One For Him landed in 2020, composed by Alexis Grugeon. It reads as an aromatic spicy composition aimed straight at the masculine mainstream: bright on top, familiar in the middle, grounded underneath. The pineapple-cardamom opening cuts through immediately, juicy and slightly green, before settling into a heart that leans warm and resinous. Leather and grass notes anchor the base, lending it a sweet, herbal drydown that feels considered without becoming heavy. There's nothing exotic or dramatic about it. No grand narrative. Just a straightforward composition that prioritizes wearability, built for the kind of guy who wants a scent he can reach for any day of the week. The logic is simple: a top that pops, a middle that comforts, a base that lingers.
The interesting choice here is the pineapple-cardamom pairing up top, which gives the opening a brightness that's almost tropical before the spices pull it back to something drier. The middle layer relies on clary sage and elemi resin, two materials that add herbal lift and a peppery, almost incense-like transparency. Geranium sits between them, doing the structural work of bridging the fruity-spicy top to the leather-patchouli base. That leather note is the anchor, preventing the whole thing from floating away into cologne territory.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes belong to pineapple and lemon, bright and almost sharp, with cardamom threading underneath like warm air through an open window. The citrus fades fast, and clary sage arrives with an herbal, slightly musky quality, joined by elemi's peppery resin note. Around the 90-minute mark, the geranium takes over and the composition starts to feel greener, more savory. The leather arrives quietly around the 2-3 hour mark, not bold or smoky, more like the smell of a well-worn belt. Patchouli and sweet grass settle in for the final 3-4 hours, creating a soft, warm, slightly sweet drydown that stays close to skin. Total wear: about 3-4 hours before it becomes a skin scent, with a faint trail that lingers into the next morning on fabric.
Cultural impact
One For Him is an aromatic spicy composition built around a pineapple-cardamom opening that sets the tone right away. The top reads bright and just slightly tropical, the pineapple bringing a sweet juiciness that the cardamom warms up with a touch of aromatic spice. Beneath that opening, the heart moves into cedar and geranium territory, adding a green, slightly woody quality that smooths the transition between top and base. The leather note is where things get interesting. Rather than reading as smoky or rugged, it stays soft and slightly sweetened, sitting next to patchouli that grounds it without overwhelming.
