The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Expression Sens launched in 2017 as part of Ésika's commitment to capturing Colombian identity through fragrance. Givaudan's Adriana Medina-Baez, drawing from her Medellín roots, wanted to translate the sensory experience of a Colombian market sunrise into scent. The brief called for something that felt alive at first spray yet developed into a lasting impression, reflecting the dynamism of early morning commerce and community. Medina-Baez worked with the contrast between fleeting fruit and enduring woods, using Colombian floral richness as the emotional core. The result reflects her vision of a fragrance that feels personal yet universally resonant.
The choice of pomarose as a heart note reflects a philosophy of balance between innovation and familiarity. Pomarose, a synthetic rose accord with fruity-woody facets, bridges the gap between traditional florals and modern sensibilities. Similarly, ambrettolide serves as the sustainable musk alternative that provides warmth without the heavy connotations of older musk bases. Patchouli grounds the composition with earthy depth that pairs naturally with Colombian cultural associations. Medina-Baez selected cedarwood for its clean, dry character that avoids sweetness, allowing the florals to remain the emotional focal point.
The evolution
The opening hits with the clarity of bergamot and mandarin, evoking the first light cutting through market stalls. Pear tempers the citrus with a soft sweetness that feels like biting into ripe fruit at dawn. Within minutes, the heart takes over as jasmine asserts its presence, grounded by orange blossom's clean floralcy. Pomarose layers in a subtle rosy-fruity dimension, giving the floral heart unexpected nuance. As the drydown arrives, the fleeting top notes fade and the fragrance deepens. Ambrettolide provides a skin-close warmth that feels almost intimate, while ambroxan adds a clean, almost cool mineral edge that elevates the woods. Cedarwood and patchouli anchor everything, creating a base that is earthy, warm, and long-lasting. The evolution moves from bright morning to tender afternoon to quiet evening, tracing a complete day in scent.
Cultural impact
Since its 2017 debut, Expression Sens has become a go‑to for women who want a scent that mirrors Colombia’s vibrant daily rhythm. Shoppers praise its ability to feel both modern and familiar, fitting casual brunches and evening gatherings alike. It sits alongside the brand’s earlier hits like Bravio and Imperium, reinforcing Ésika’s reputation for accessible, mood‑driven fragrances that echo local culture.
