The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Shine arrived in 2018 as part of Edens Garden's natural perfume collection, brought to life by Charity Dykstra and Gras Martin. The collection takes a particular approach to fragrance, building each composition entirely from essential oils rather than synthetic aroma chemicals, and Shine sits squarely within that philosophy. What emerges from the bottle is something that reads less like a constructed fragrance and more like a distillation of a particular kind of afternoon, warm, clean, slightly herbal, unforced. There's a brightness at the top that lifts immediately, a green herbal quality through the middle, and a soft floral-woody base that stays gentle rather than dramatic.
What's interesting about Shine is how much lavender does in a composition that also leads with citrus. Pairing lavender with tangerine and lemon myrtle shifts the register warmer and more electric, catching the cool herbal note and pulling it toward something almost sunlit. The elemi resin in the heart adds a peppery, lemony brightness that bridges the citrus top and the floral base, preventing the composition from splitting into a sharp opening and a powdery drydown.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are all citrus: tangerine up front, lemon myrtle threading through with a sharper, almost herbal edge. Lavender is already present but sits underneath, a cool foundation beneath all that citrus energy. Around the forty-minute mark, the tangerine starts to soften and elemi resin pushes forward, bringing a warm, peppery quality that reads almost like lemon zest mixed with a whisper of frankincense. The heart phase settles into a lavender-lemongrass accord that's clean and slightly grassy, more field than flower. The herbal green quality here feels distinctly botanical, like stems and leaves rather than a constructed accord. By the two-hour mark, the citrus has mostly faded and ylang-ylang begins to surface alongside sandalwood, lending a creamy, faintly tropical undertone.
Cultural impact
Shine arrived in 2018 inside Edens Garden's all-natural perfume program, a category the company has developed as part of its broader essential-oils catalog. The brand built its identity around transparency about ingredients and a commitment to botanical sourcing, making essential oils the foundation of every composition it releases. Within that lineup, Shine occupies a distinctive position as a lavender-citrus blend that highlights the lighter, more luminous side of natural perfumery.
