The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Vanilla Sandalwood arrived in 2018 as part of Edens Garden's natural perfume line, a roster of botanical compositions designed for daily wear. The blend was created by perfumers Charity Dykstra and Gras Martin, whose collaboration reflects the brand's commitment to working within a small, deliberate palette of ingredients. From the first spritz, the fragrance opens with a clean, slightly green magnolia note that reads more like a living flower than a stylized abstraction, a brightness that feels hand-tended rather than manufactured. As the magnolia softens over the opening minutes, sandalwood steps forward with a creamy, dry character, offering warmth without weight.
The restraint on display here is striking. There are no heavy boosters or sharp projection aids, just a careful arrangement of botanical notes allowed to speak for themselves. The magnolia opening carries a dewy, almost sun-warmed quality, lifted slightly by something green at the edges that keeps it from tipping into sweetness. The sandalwood that follows is dry and creamy at once, with a quiet warmth that reads more like bare skin than polished wood, the kind of note that feels grown rather than constructed.
The evolution
The first few minutes are all magnolia, bright and slightly green, like petals still holding morning dew. Within twenty minutes it pulls back and the sandalwood takes the center, creamy and dry simultaneously, with a quiet peppery warmth that reads more like bare skin than wood. By the second hour vanilla enters from underneath, not as sugar but as something darker and resinous, held together by myrrh's incense-like undertone. The drydown settles into a close, almost intimate skin scent. The vanilla deepens further as the hours pass, taking on a faint balsamic sweetness that lingers close to the body and feels more like a memory than a statement. Each stage of the wear reveals a different facet, with the magnolia's dewiness giving way to sandalwood's creamy austerity before the darker, resinous base asserts itself in the final hours.
Cultural impact
Vanilla Sandalwood appeals to wearers drawn to straightforward botanical compositions built around a few well-chosen ingredients. The fragrance offers a quiet, unhurried take on a beloved pairing, letting magnolia, sandalwood, vanilla, and myrrh each contribute their own texture without crowding one another. Magnolia brings its dewy, sun-warmed opening, sandalwood provides a creamy and dry center, vanilla anchors the base with something darker and more resinous, and myrrh weaves a faint incense-like thread through every stage.
