The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Daphné Bugey created Q Elixir as the first Elixir in Dolce&Gabbana's fragrance history. The K&Q Elixirs collection brought a bold new concentration to the house, pushing intensity further than standard formulations. The brief called for elevating the original Q signature into something richer, more addictive. The concept drew inspiration from the Queen of the Night flower, a nocturnal bloom that has long captured imaginations with its fleeting beauty. The result is a fragrance that feels both precious and indulgent, built around the idea of capturing something rare and translating it into a lasting sensory experience. It's a scent that rewards attention, inviting you to notice how its layers unfold across the skin.
Cherry nectar opens with a sweet, almost liqueur-like quality, immediately inviting and warm. From there, Jasmine Sambac arrives with its deeper warmth, adding a honeyed richness that feels enveloping rather than fleeting. Peru Balsam grounds the composition in something warm and resinous, providing a foundation that gives the fragrance substance. Oakmoss adds a mossy, slightly earthy quality that keeps the sweetness anchored, preventing it from floating away.
The evolution
Cherry nectar opens with a burst of bright fruit, dark and slightly boozy, like cherries steeped in warm liqueur. Sicilian lemon cuts through, keeping the opening crisp and effervescent for the first twenty minutes or so. Then the florals arrive. Queen of the Night unfurls at the center, creamy and slightly narcotic, wrapped in Jasmine Sambac's honeyed sweetness. This is the heart of the fragrance, where the nocturnal flowers take center stage and the composition deepens. The base settles quietly, with Peru Balsam's warm resin and Oakmoss grounding the scent into something intimate and close to the skin. The sillage remains present without being overwhelming, and the longevity holds steady through an evening, with the drydown revealing the resinous warmth of the base notes as the florals fade.
Cultural impact
Q Elixir launched as part of the K&Q Elixirs duo, the first Elixirs in Dolce&Gabbana's fragrance history. The collection brought a heightened concentration to the house, designed to deliver more intensity than standard formulations. It's a floral amber with a fruity opening, where bright cherry notes meet deeper floral heart notes. The Queen of the Night note gives it a distinctive edge, adding an unusual quality that sets it apart in the amber floral category.
