The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Aylan started as a gift. Michael Paul, the perfumer behind Day Three Fragrances, created it for his daughter, a scent-love letter written in bergamot and rose. The formula took eight months to age into the smooth, enveloping extrait it became. When the ScentXplore Convention named it their official fragrance for 2024, it confirmed what the family already knew: this one was special. The name is hers. The composition is his.
What makes Aylan unusual is the way its materials don't compete, they defer. The bergamot opens crisp and citrus-bright. The pink pepper adds a playful spice that keeps things from going heavy too early. But as the Bulgarian rose absolute and orange blossom arrive, the structure softens into something cashmere-like, warm and powdery without ever becoming cloying. Then the base: vanilla absolute and oud that deepen quietly, adding weight without adding noise. Saffron threads through all three stages, present in the opening as a subtle warmth, more pronounced in the drydown as a spice that keeps the vanilla from going flat.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes belong to the bergamot and pink pepper, a bright, slightly spicy opening that announces presence without demanding it. Elemi resin adds a balsamic quality, a hint of something resinous that grounds the citrus. Then, over the next two to three hours, Bulgarian rose absolute and orange blossom arrive slowly, taking their time. Cashmeran keeps the transition soft, no sharp handoff, just a gradual warming. By hour four, the vanilla absolute and oud have taken over. This is where Aylan becomes itself. The vanilla doesn't sit on top, it radiates from within, warm and enveloping, while the oud adds a depth that stops it from ever feeling like a simple gourmand. Saffron lingers as a dry spice, present through the end.
Cultural impact
Aylan became the official fragrance of the ScentXplore Convention 2024 in New York, a significant recognition for a small independent house. The fragrance has found an audience among those who appreciate vanilla extracted beyond the usual gourmand territory: warm, resinous, and long-lasting. Those who have encountered it often note that it delivers a complexity that feels unexpected for its positioning, inviting wearers into something more intimate than performative.
