The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Davidoff launched the original Cool Water in 1988, a scent that would go on to become a cornerstone of the fresh fragrance landscape. Summer Fizz arrived as an evolution of that beloved formula, carrying the same family DNA but recalibrated for heat and brightness. The name says it all. This is the Cool Water you reach for when temperatures climb, when ice melts faster than you can refill your glass, when the original's deeper facets feel too weighty for July. The fragrance opens with a bright, almost sparkling citrus burst that feels like the first sip of ice-cold seltzer on a sweltering afternoon. A crisp mint heart emerges as the top notes settle, bringing an herbal coolness that lingers just above the skin.
What makes Summer Fizz work is the kiwi. Not a common note in men's fragrance, it's soft, slightly tart, almost melon-adjacent, but here it bridges the citrus opening and the herbal heart without either side overpowering. Mint does heavy lifting too, lending that clean-cool sensation that reads as "fresh" without the typical soapy trap. The real trick is that none of the notes fight for dominance. Citrus opens, mint cools, kiwi sweetens, lavender and sage keep it grounded, cedar and musk close the door quietly. It's a composition built for layering into warm skin rather than projecting across a cold room.
The evolution
The opening arrives fast, citrus and mint arrive almost simultaneously, with the kiwi adding a subtle tartness that keeps the top from reading as generic cleaning product. Within fifteen minutes, the lavender and sage take over, shifting the fragrance from sparkling to herbal. The mint never fully disappears; it lingers in the background like a crushed leaf on a glass. By the drydown, two hours in, the cedar emerges and the white musk softens everything into something skin-close. Six to eight hours later, what's left is a faint warmth on fabric, not projection, but presence. On clothes, it can last until the next wash.
Cultural impact
Summer Fizz stands apart within the Cool Water lineup thanks to its distinctive kiwi-lavender-mint combination, which gives it a personality that goes beyond simple family resemblance. The bright kiwi note provides an unexpected tartness at the opening, while lavender brings a soft, slightly floral herbal quality that grounds the composition. Mint adds that essential cooling sensation, creating an overall impression of effervescence and clarity. The result is a fragrance that feels different from its siblings while still belonging to the family.
