The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Jeffrey Dame has been chasing chocolate since 2014, when Chocolate Man arrived as the founding expression of Dame Perfumery's gourmand catalog. But Chocolate Man was built as a cologne, lighter, fresher, designed to flirt rather than settle. The idea for Chocolate+ emerged from a simple question: what if you turned up the volume? Dame reached for the same chocolate oil he'd trusted for years, but pushed the concentration higher, building something denser, more enveloping. The result isn't Chocolate Man amplified, it's a different creature entirely. Released in 2022, Chocolate+ arrives with the confidence of a house that knows its signature material inside out.
The pyramid reads almost like a dare: top, heart, and base, all chocolate. Most fragrances name-drop chocolate as an accent, a warm undertone, a supporting player. Dame Perfumery makes it the entire cast. This isn't novelty for novelty's sake. Chocolate as a solo material has surprising range, it can read as bitter cocoa, sweet milk, dark ganache, or warm baking cocoa depending on concentration and what surrounds it. By stripping away everything else, Chocolate+ lets you experience chocolate in its full complexity, from the bright opening to the quiet drydown that clings to skin hours later.
The evolution
The opening arrives with immediate intent, thick, gooey, malted cocoa that some wearers describe as brownie batter. There's no citrus top note to lighten it, no florals to complicate it. Just chocolate, asserting itself. Within the first hour, the warmer spice notes emerge, a quiet cinnamon that Drydown arrives quietly, without announcement. What lingers is chocolate in its most intimate register, close to the skin, almost a memory. On fabric, it can hold for a full day. On skin, expect 4-6 hours of moderate sillage before it settles into a skin-scent that some wearers report noticing even the next morning.
Cultural impact
Chocolate as a perfumery note has evolved from a rare luxury ingredient to a beloved signature scent category. This fragrance joins a lineage that includes iconic creations that proved single-note fragrances can be just as compelling as complex compositions. The enduring appeal of chocolate scents speaks to our deep olfactory nostalgia and the universal comfort associated with cocoa. Such focused fragrances challenge the industry to prove that restraint and clarity can be just as artistic as complexity, appealing to those who seek their scent to make a clear, unapologetic statement.
