The beginning
Blue Orchidée arrived in 2007 as part of the ShanghaïJava collection, a line Crazylibellule & The Poppies built around the romance of Oriental nights. The brand's own copy sketches a woman who wears a man's shirt and pins a blue orchid at her waist, someone who moves through rooms with quiet confidence. She exudes freedom and order, a particular tension that gives the whole composition its character. Ylang-ylang carries the sweetness, and the jasmine underneath adds a hypnotic pull. The whole composition reads as floral with a secretive spine, the kind of scent that suggests rather than declares. There's a particular kind of hush to it, a softness that sits closer to the body than most florals dare to go.
What's interesting here is the restraint of the composition itself. The top trio of bergamot, mandarin, and orange gives just enough lift to keep things from sinking into pure sweetness, but the heart, that ylang-ylang, jasmine, and rose combination, does most of the speaking.
