The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Thomas Fontaine designed Lime Tropical in 2024 as part of Comptoir Sud Pacifique's Jardins Pop collection. The fragrance leads with bold citrus, the lime taking center stage from the first spray. It's an unapologetic statement of tropical freshness, where the protagonist note drives the composition rather than playing a supporting role. The scent captures the immediacy of fresh citrus, bright and vivid, with the tropical setting providing a vivid backdrop for the sharp, clean character of the lime to shine through completely.
The structure presents an intriguing contrast between the sharp citrus of the opening and the aromatic heart that follows. Lemon verbena and tarragon reshape the initial brightness, turning it into something more herbal and green. The base combines cedar and guaiac wood, materials selected for their weight and presence. This foundation gives the drydown a quiet authority, grounding the composition in a way that the opening never suggested.
The evolution
Citron and grapefruit zest arrive with tart, almost bitter intensity. Lemon verbena appears and softens the edges, shifting the experience from fruit bowl territory toward herb garden territory. The tarragon adds a faint anise-like depth, bridging the citrus and the wood. By the second hour, cedar has taken over, warm and dry, with guaiac wood adding a faint smoky quality that keeps the drydown from feeling purely woody. Oakmoss lingers longest, that dry green note that makes you smell like you walked through a garden this morning rather than spritzed something from a bottle.
Cultural impact
Lime Tropical occupies an interesting position in the brand's lineup: a citrus-woody aromatic from a house known for its tropical escapist vision. The Jardins Pop collection, where this fragrance belongs, showcases the house exploring new olfactory territory while maintaining its core identity. The scent offers something for those drawn to tropical aesthetics but seeking a more aromatic expression of that fantasy.
