The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Oud Night Out arrived in 2021, one of the earliest compositions from a brand still finding its voice. This was part of the conversation from day one. The name itself is the brief. An evening out. Oud, but not the dense, resinous kind you'd expect when oud is the headliner. Perfumer Arturetto Landi built it as a unisex composition: woody first, warm-spicy second, but the fruit-forward opening up top keeps it light on its feet. The opening sprays bright, almost fizzy, like the first cold sip of something sparkling, and that lift matters more than you'd think in a fragrance built around oud. Instead of leaning on the resin's weight, the composition treats oud as a supporting texture, something to be threaded through fruit and wood rather than allowed to dominate.
What's interesting here is the tension between the top and the base. Ripe strawberries, raspberry, and pear announce themselves as something sweet, almost gourmand. Then the drydown lands in guaiac wood, cypriol oil, and patchouli. That pivot is the whole fragrance. Nagarmotha, or cypriol oil, is a root material rarely seen in compositions aimed at younger fragrance wearers, giving the base a smoky, earthy quality that has nothing to do with the bright berries up top. The saffron in the heart bridges the two halves, adding a dry, leathery warmth that keeps the sweetness from ever becoming obvious.
The evolution
The opening hits fast and friendly. Bergamot, pear, raspberry, and strawberry land within minutes, bright and almost jam-like against skin. The fruit has real presence here, and for a stretch it carries the whole composition on its own, syrupy enough to register as sweet but lifted by the citrus so it never tips into candy territory. Soon enough the cyclamen and jasmine start pulling the sweetness into something more floral, and the saffron begins threading through, adding a faint peppery warmth that wasn't there before. The saffron does quiet work in the background, more texture than top note, and it gives the heart a dry, slightly leathery cast that contrasts the juicier opening. Eventually the fruit recedes almost entirely. Guaiac wood and cedarwood step forward, with nagarmotha offering something earthy, almost smoky underneath.
Cultural impact
Oud Night Out by Colish sits at an interesting crossroads in modern perfumery. By pairing oud with bright berry notes like raspberry and strawberry and a clean bergamot-pear opening, the composition makes oud feel approachable in a context where it has historically read as heavy or ceremonial. The fruit accord up top does real work here, because it reframes the entire wear before the oud ever has a chance to land. Someone sampling this for the first time gets sweetness, lift, and a kind of playful energy long before any of the woodier textures appear, and that ordering changes how the oud gets received later.
