Soft Laundry

What makes Soft Laundry work is the restraint. Too many 'clean' fragrances overcorrect into synthetic territory, all sharp aldehydes and chemical brightness. Here, the water accord does something different. It mutes the sharpness before it can start, creating space for the florals to breathe. Iris brings a powdery softness that doesn't overwhelm. Jasmine adds warmth without the indolic punch it can sometimes deliver. The result is a fragrance that smells like it came from your own skin, only better. The marine notes and pear create a freshness that feels natural, not manufactured. That's the tightrope Claisse walked, and he mostly sticks the landing.

The evolution

The opening hits immediately. Pear and bergamot arrive crisp and citrusy, the water accord underneath adding a translucent quality that keeps everything from getting too sharp. Within five minutes, the aquatic notes recede and the heart takes over. Water lily and jasmine arrive together, soft and floating, with iris providing the powdery structure that holds them in place. This is the longest phase, stretching from thirty minutes to about two hours. Then the base arrives. Musk and sandalwood settle close to the skin, amber warmth adding a gentle sweetness that never tips into edible. By hour three, the fragrance has become skin-warm and intimate. The sillage is moderate at best. You have to lean in to smell it. But that lean-in is exactly the point.
