The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Rhythm emerged from City Rhythm's vision to translate a city's pulse into liquid form. Perfumer Niles Ramadhin oriented the scent around an urban night, bright and electric at first, then warm and Intimate as it settles on skin. The formula moves from sharp citrus and spice through an aromatic heart before ending in a warm amber that feels close and personal. Ramadhin, trained in Berlin and known for work across independent brands, wanted Rhythm to feel like the moment a street comes alive after dark, not staged, but felt.
The pairing rationale behind Rhythm reflects a specific intent: lemon and bergamot create an opening that is immediately legible and approachable, while pink pepper adds just enough spice to keep things interesting without overwhelming. The heart, built around hedione, tarragon, and cardamom, was designed to transition the fragrance from bright to layered, preventing it from feeling like a one-note exercise. The base leans on ambroxan and benzoin because they offer warmth and intimacy without the cloying sweetness that often marks more commercial fragrances. This note structure means the fragrance rewards patience.
The evolution
The scent opens with lemon and bergamot, delivering that immediate citrus brightness that feels like stepping into cool night air. Pink pepper adds a subtle spice that prevents the top from being purely sweet. Within the first hour, tarragon and cardamom rise, shifting the character from bright to aromatic. Hedione anchors the heart, lending a clean floralcy that feels transparent and modern. As the fragrance moves into its drydown, ambroxan takes over, replacing brightness with a warm, mineral amber that hugs the skin. Benzoin adds a faint resinous quality while Iso E Super creates a skin-like woodiness, resulting in a finish that feels Intimate and lived in. The full evolution traces a path from electric citrus to warm aromatic to close amber, like a night that starts loud and ends quietly personal.
Cultural impact
Since its 2026 debut, Rhythm has sparked conversation among niche collectors who see it as the sweet‑savory bridge between cocktail‑culture and confectionery trends. Wearers often cite it as the go‑to scent for late‑night rooftop gatherings, while forums note its polarising gourmand heart sets it apart from the house’s more minimalist city‑scapes.
