Le Bain de Minuit translates as the midnight bath. It's an early chapter in Cerchi Nell'Acqua's catalogue, launched in 2017 and composed by Enrico Buccella, the Italian perfumer behind the line. The name sets the temperature: not daylight fruit, but fruit after dark. Think of stone fruit left in a glass bowl while the candles burn low. There's an intimacy to the conceit, a private hour when sweetness stops performing and just exists. Buccella built the composition around that hour, letting strawberry and cherry announce themselves before the warmer woods close in. The fragrance asks a simple question with a layered answer: what does fruit smell like when it's held inside something wooden and quiet?
The unusual move here is putting cedar and mandarin orange in the heart, not the base. Most perfumers would file cedar under the bottom notes and let the woods anchor the drydown while the fruit evaporates above. Buccella folds cedar into the middle instead, so the wood note arrives while the cherry and strawberry are still bright. That timing matters. It means the fruit never gets a free pass into pure sugar; the cedar intercepts it, dries it out, and gives the composition a backbone it wouldn't otherwise have.

The first spray is all fruit, and unapologetically so. Strawberry lands first, jammy and almost candied, then cherry follows with its deeper sweetness. Mandarin lifts the top just enough to keep it from collapsing into syrup. As the minutes pass, the cedar walks in.
