The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Laurent Le Guernec designed Euphoria Amber Gold Men as an answer to a simple question: what happens when sweetness gets serious? The 2018 release belongs to Calvin Klein's Euphoria collection, a line that has always leaned toward the romantic and the bold. But this one takes a different path. The name itself is a declaration, amber, gold, euphoria, warm materials that don't apologize for being warm. This fragrance goes beyond typical mass-market approaches, inviting those who encounter it to lean in and discover its depths.
The note combination is genuinely unusual in mass-market perfumery. Oregano and sage aren't ingredients that typically share a composition with honey, they suggest something more herbal, more Mediterranean, more intentional. But here they serve a purpose: they cut through the sweetness before it can become cloying. Jasmine absolute adds its quiet depth beneath, giving the heart a complexity that rewards attention. The base reveals darker, more substantial notes as it develops, with frankincense providing smoky depth alongside leather, amber, and vetiver.
The evolution
The opening announces bergamot and cypress, a bright, almost sharp citrus that lasts maybe fifteen minutes before the composition shifts. Then the honey arrives, and it is not the clean grocery-store kind. This is smoky, resinous honey, the kind found in warm markets and ancient ceremonies. The sage and oregano arrive together, their dry herbal quality cutting through the honey's richness and keeping everything from becoming too soft. Jasmine sits quietly beneath, present but not intrusive. The drydown is where the fragrance earns its longevity. Frankincense and leather dominate, smoky, animalic, almost tactile. Amber provides warmth without sweetness, and vetiver settles into the skin like a warm memory. Eight to ten hours later, the amber and vetiver still whisper. On fabric, it lasts until the next wash.
Cultural impact
Exclusive to Middle Eastern markets, Euphoria Amber Gold Men drew comparisons to Dark Rebel by John Varvatos and Bvlgari Black for its honey-smoke-leather combination. The fragrance appeals to those who want something distinctive, something that doesn't announce itself immediately but rewards the attention of anyone who gets close. Those who discovered it describe it as having niche-level quality and depth, a composition that stands apart from typical mass-market offerings.
