The beginning
In 2018, Bvlgari turned to Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud to capture something ephemeral: the magnolia blossom, a flower that blooms briefly but imprints itself completely. Working from the brand's Roman tradition of transforming precious materials into wearable art, Cavallier-Belletrud approached the magnolia not as a single note but as an experience, one that shifts from radiant opening to lush heart to warm lingering skin-feel.
Cavallier-Belletrud chose to open with citrus and neroli specifically to mirror the way magnolia itself seems to glow against dark foliage before you get close enough to smell it. The jasmine and orange blossom in the heart layer the magnolia into something richer and more complex, while the musk-vanilla drydown anchors the fleeting blossom so it stays with you, close to the skin, the way a real magnolia's scent lingers in warm evening air.
The evolution
The opening sparkles with mandarin orange and neroli, a pairing that feels sunlit and clean before the real protagonist arrives. Magnolia enters the heart stage with creamy petal weight, and the addition of jasmine deepens the floral narrative while orange blossom adds its signature waxy, honeyed character. As the fragrance breathes into the drydown, musk and vanilla create a warm, Intimate trail, and patchouli grounds everything with just enough earthiness to keep the composition from floating away entirely.
