The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Adam Bujairami named this one for the hour, not the mood. After Dark is the 2025 release, and the brief seems straightforward on paper: what does a man's evening smell like when the day is done and the volume comes down? The composition answers with restraint rather than spectacle. Cardamom and sage open the door, the spice bringing a smoky-sweet warmth while the herb threads through with something cooler and faintly bitter, keeping that initial hit from collapsing into pure sweetness. French narcissus, that heady yellow bloom, works the middle alongside a pairing of vetivers that builds genuine depth: Haitian contributing that wet, almost mineral root quality, and Madagascan smoothing things out with something drier and slightly warmer.
The interesting choice here is sage. It sits at the front of this pyramid, and it functions as the grounding herbal counterpoint to cardamom's warmth rather than a background filler. French narcissus in the heart is the other surprise. Narcotic, green-honeyed, almost indolic in the right hands, it adds a yellow floral register that most woody-aromatic builds would reject, and it does it without ever tipping into the territory of a room-clearer white floral.
The evolution
The opening belongs to cardamom. It hits bright and almost smoky-sweet, with sage threading through it like something herbal and slightly bitter keeping the warmth honest. That initial cardamom note carries a green-tinged spiciness that cuts against the sweetness, refusing to let the top notes read as simple or one-dimensional. As the composition moves forward, the top notes fade and the heart opens up. French narcissus blooms like something seen under low light, that particular yellow sweetness sitting alongside vetiver's rooty greenness. The two vetivers don't compete; they layer, with the Haitian expression adding a wet-earth, almost mineral edge while the Madagascan reading rounds things out with something drier and warmer. From the middle onward, the base takes over.
Cultural impact
After Dark fits comfortably within the brand's catalog as a contemplative, evening-leaning release, the kind of fragrance a wearer reaches for when they want presence without volume. Among a range of styles that includes brighter, more casual options, this one belongs to the warmer register, built for close quarters rather than projection. The sage-and-narcissus combination gives the release a distinctive personality, the herb opening with enough clarity to register immediately while the narcissus in the heart carries a complexity that most woody-aromatic builds simply don't attempt.
