The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
High Desert came from a collaboration with INDY C.C., a San Antonio lifestyle retailer and specialty espresso house that curates goods of the American Southwest. The partnership produced a fragrance that evokes a specific place rather than a vague impression. High Desert became that somewhere, a dusty trailhead scent with a crisp citrus opening that transitions into dry cedar and aromatic herbs. The composition captures the feeling of open terrain, the kind of place you'd stumble upon and try to find again, where the air carries the memory of dust and resin and warm stone.
The note structure tells the story without explanation. Coriander and Texas grapefruit open bright, that citrus-herbal tension that reads clean without being polite. The heart is cedar and sage, dry and aromatic, a woody backbone that anchors the composition. The base brings birch tar and cade oil, materials that add smoke and depth. Labdanum and vetiver contribute resinous warmth and earth. Together they create a fragrance with character and presence, something distinctive and grounded in its own identity.
The evolution
The opening arrives fast. Texas grapefruit and coriander land clean and sharp, a brief moment of brightness before the cedar takes over. The trail herbs arrive, sage and something green and slightly medicinal. The composition develops as the lighter citrus notes fade. The cedar deepens, taking on the smoky edge of birch tar and cade oil. The heart settles into its woody character, the herbs moved to the background. The smoke and earth of the base assert themselves as the fragrance develops. Vetiver and labdanum add warmth and earth to the finish, creating a lingering presence that maintains the fragrance's character as it evolves on the skin.
Cultural impact
High Desert represents a fragrance rooted in regional identity, developed in collaboration with INDY C.C., a San Antonio lifestyle retailer and specialty espresso house. The partnership brings together complementary sensibilities in creating scents that reflect specific places and experiences. This approach to fragrance composition offers an alternative to mainstream options, appealing to those seeking something with a clear sense of origin and character.
