The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Benetton released Giallo Woman in 2010 as part of the Colori collection, a series built on the premise that colour is language. Yellow (giallo) stands for warmth, energy and gold in the brand's chromatic lexicon. Design Studio Fabrica created the bottles: unfinished graffiti tags that mirror the spontaneous gesture of painting with colour. This was Benetton translating its fashion ethos into scent, every note a shade, every wear an expression of everyday optimism. The brief wasn't complexity. It was sun.
The composition leans into contrast without ever leaving comfort. Star anise opens, a quiet licorice warmth that gives the fragrance a distinctive edge among florals and fruits. Mint and aquatic notes follow, creating a cool, almost breezy effect that tempers the sweetness. The tension keeps Giallo Woman from reading as purely dessert: there's a green, almost medicinal crispness running underneath the berries and peach, a quality that lingers through the opening and into the heart.
The evolution
Star anise hits first, bright, a little sharp, like biting into a licorice candy on a hot pavement. Mint and red berries tumble in behind, cooling everything down. The aquatic note adds a strange, pleasant distance, as if there's a breeze coming from somewhere. The florals take over with peach and rose arriving soft and sweet, violet lending a powdery edge that rounds the corners. This phase holds steady, a gentle, undemanding warmth that sits close to the skin. The floral-peach blend weaves through the heart, keeping the composition cohesive as it moves toward its base. The drydown is where Giallo Woman earns its keep. Tonka bean and vanilla deepen into something slightly caramel-like without ever becoming edible. Musk keeps it clean. Woody notes anchor the whole thing. The scent fades quietly, leaving warmth on the skin.
Cultural impact
Benetton positioned Giallo Woman within its broader chromatic narrative, colour as universal communication. Yellow is the optimistic colour of happiness and energy, and Giallo Woman translates that spirit into scent, a lively colour of the sun which fills the world with light and life. The fragrance targets the wearer who wants pleasant, not challenging. It's a daylight scent with no pretension of complexity, embodying warmth and approachability in every spray.
