The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Sumptuous Flower translates Amouroud's sensory-mapping philosophy into a single concept: warmth itself. Not warmth from a place, not warmth from a memory, just the sensation of afternoon light on skin, captured in honeyed florals. The 2022 release builds on the house's long relationship with white florals, taking the genre in a richer, more decadent direction.
The honey-vanilla base is what makes this worth wearing past the first hour. White florals are easy to love in the opening, jasmine and tuberose announce themselves loudly. But the test of a fragrance is what happens four hours in, when the skin has warmed and the florals have settled. Here, honey and vanilla absolute carry the drydown, creating a warmth that rewards patience.
The evolution
The opening arrives fully formed. Jasmine and tuberose don't wait, they bloom immediately, pressing close with a creamy warmth that reads almost edible. Peach keeps the top layer soft, a breath of fruit that stops the florals from becoming too much. Around the first hour, the heart begins to show: ylang-ylang adds a deeper, more golden layer, and the rose absolute starts to anchor everything. By the second hour, the honey is present but not dominant. It's part of the warmth now, woven into the skin rather than sitting on top. The vanilla absolute takes longer to arrive, around the third or fourth hour, but when it does, it smooths everything into a close, intimate drydown that lasts until you wash it off. Eight to ten hours. On some skin, longer.
Cultural impact
Sumptuous Flower sits in the category of white floral and honey combinations that attract collectors seeking richness without loudness. The fragrance doesn't project, it rewards leaning in. That quality appeals to a specific kind of wearer: someone who wants a scent that feels personal, almost private, rather than announced.
