The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2014, JPG invited perfumer Francis Kurkdjian to give the 1993 Classique a new chapter. Not a reinvention, a renovation. Kurkdjian kept 40% of the original and built 60% new around it, a fragrance that carries its own history but refuses to live in it. The goal wasn't to replace the original. It was to give it more power, more sweetness, more of everything that made people fall in love the first time. Kurkdjian's approach was precise: build in layers that reward patience. The top draws you in, the heart keeps you there, the base makes you remember it the next morning.
The structure tells the story: solar sweetness up top, rich floral heart, warm woody base. Tiare and pomegranate open bright and fruity, an immediate grab. Then jasmine, orange blossom, and rose take over, layering into the floral heart that made the original so beloved. The base of vanilla and patchouli grounds everything, giving the sweetness somewhere warm to settle rather than dissipate. Kurkdjian's approach was precise: build in layers that reward patience. The top draws you in, the heart keeps you there, the base makes you remember it the next morning.
The evolution
The opening hits like a sun-drenched garden, tiare and pomegranate delivering immediate sweetness with a fruity spark that catches light. Within minutes, jasmine and orange blossom take over: creamy, almost heady. The rose adds a soft counterpoint, keeping the floral heart from becoming too heavy. Then the base arrives. Vanilla and patchouli settle into the composition like warm skin, sweet but grounded, creamy but with an earthy depth that keeps it from going full gourmand. The drydown is where this fragrance lives. The floral heart lingers under the vanilla-patchouli warmth, present even the next day on fabric. JPG built this to last, not to whisper, but to stay.
Cultural impact
Classique Intense is the fragrance for someone who wants to be remembered, not just noticed. The tiare and pomegranate give it a solar, approachable quality, while the jasmine-rose heart and vanilla-patchouli base add the kind of complexity that reveals itself over hours. The sillage means it announces you before you've entered the room. JPG's philosophy, no rules, no polite background noise, lives in every spray.
