The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Night Hawk landed in 2023 as part of Ajmal's curated men's collection. The scent channels the hawk's-eye view: high, sharp, survey-mode. Grapefruit and pink pepper give the immediate altitude, that first burst of citrus lifted by a controlled peppery heat. The composition drops into warmer air as cinnamon and juniper take over, then settles into leather, cashmere wood, and amber that anchor the whole thing to earth. There's a tactile weight to the drydown, something you can almost feel settling on the skin, while the top still clings to brightness above. The result is a fragrance that takes the classic oriental structure and tightens it, giving the richness a modern, polished edge without losing the warmth that makes the genre what it is.
What makes Night Hawk interesting is the dialogue between crisp fruit and grounded spice. Grapefruit is bright, almost tart, and pink pepper adds a controlled sting, the kind of opening that pulls you in rather than pushing you back. The heart pulls the composition sideways with cinnamon, juniper berry, clary sage, and lavender, building something layered and aromatic where you might expect a straight shot of fresh citrus.
The evolution
The opening belongs to grapefruit and apple, cut by pink pepper's dry heat. It reads almost cocktail-bright, the kind of introduction that makes you check your wrist twice. Soon after, the citrus starts to bow out and cinnamon takes the wheel, joined by juniper's gin-and-bitter edge and lavender's herbal cool. The composition becomes spiced, aromatic, slightly smoky without ever going full incense, more like a curl of woodsmoke caught in passing than a room full of it. As the hours pass, the leather and amber have fully settled, and what remains is a warm, close-to-skin drydown: cashmere wood softness, vetiver's dry earthiness, amber's resin glow. The progression feels intentional, each phase giving way to the next without any abrupt handoff.
Cultural impact
Night Hawk is a study in contrast: bright citrus and pink pepper at the top, warm leather and amber at the base, and a spiced heart holding the two together. The grapefruit opening carries a tart, almost effervescent quality that feels like a deliberate counterweight to the heavier notes waiting underneath. The cinnamon and juniper in the middle phase give the composition a slightly smoky, aromatic character without crossing into incense territory, more like a wood fire in the distance than smoke in the room. The leather in the base is supple, suede-soft, and the cashmere wood adds a velvety texture that rounds out the amber's resin glow.
