The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The name says it and the juice delivers. Forbidden Fuel was conceived as an olfactory act of indulgence, a fragrance built from the inside out around desire and compulsion, the twin poles of what Aholic calls home. Mathieu Nardin designed this as a warm amber composition, translating the brand's philosophy of obsession into liquid form. Rum as metaphor: the slow burn that starts fast and doesn't let go. Cinnamon bark and davana as the lift that keeps it from becoming a heavy blanket. This isn't a fragrance that asks permission. It was built for the person who already decided.
What makes Forbidden Fuel interesting isn't any single note, it's the Davana. That herbaceous, slightly fermented quality in the top lifts the rum into something stranger than a cocktail. Combined with Figolide in the heart, there's a powdery, almost skin-like warmth that prevents the clove and benzoin from tipping into incense territory. The tobacco absolute is the quiet anchor. It doesn't smoke, it sweetens. Vanilla absolute does the heavy lifting in the drydown, but patchouli keeps it grounded, earthy, with a subtle depth that elevates it beyond the ordinary.
The evolution
The opening hits fast, rum, davana, a sharp curl of cinnamon bark. It announces itself before you've finished spraying. Then the clove arrives, building heat as the composition progresses. The benzoin smooths everything in the middle, creating a warm pause before the real story begins. As the fragrance moves forward, tobacco and vanilla take their turn at the center stage. The drydown is intimate, close, the kind of warmth you bury your nose in. Not a room-filler in the classic sense, a presence that stays with you, in your clothes, on your skin, for extended hours that stretch well beyond what most fragrances offer.
Cultural impact
Still establishing itself after a recent debut, Forbidden Fuel sits within Aholic's amber-spicy offerings. Mathieu Nardin brings craft credibility to the composition. The fragrance has attracted attention in niche fragrance communities, with wearers noting its distinctive character and staying power. As a newer release from a developing house, it represents an interesting entry in the contemporary niche landscape.
