The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Nirvana takes its name from the concept of transcendence, a state beyond ordinary experience, beyond desire, beyond the everyday. Perfumer Marzia Tissino composed this fragrance in 2022 with a specific ambition: to create something that functions as a precision instrument for emotional recalibration, not merely a pleasant smell. The brief was clear, build a scent that could genuinely shift how someone feels, wrapping the wearer in warmth and transporting them somewhere else entirely. Nirvana became the emotional centerpiece of the Red collection, embodying the brand's founding philosophy that fragrance is the most direct method for altering one's state of mind. Tissino wanted to create something addictive, a boozy, warm, sensual quality that captures the essence of desire.
The composition works because the materials reinforce each other without redundancy. Cognac's tanginess keeps tonka and vanilla from becoming too sweet. Hazelnut bridges sweet and spicy. Sandalwood acts as a backbone that ties everything together. Cashmere wood isn't just a name, it's a soft, plush material that creates warmth underneath the other notes, making the base feel more intimate and less linear. What makes this truly distinctive is how the cognac remains present throughout the drydown. In most fragrances, the boozy quality fades within the first hour. Here, it threads through the entire experience, blending with vanilla and woody notes rather than disappearing.
The evolution
The opening arrives with confidence, cognac-soaked, slightly tangy, with myrrh lending resinous depth beneath the sweetness. Tonka bean hovers just beneath, softening what could otherwise feel sharp. About 20 minutes in, the heart emerges: cinnamon rises, pushing past the cognac and myrrh with a warm, spicy push. Hazelnut arrives alongside it, nutty, slightly toasted, making the heart feel cozy and edible. Sandalwood tempers the spice, adding creaminess so the cinnamon doesn't become harsh. The drydown is where this fragrance earns its name. Vanilla and cashmere wood take over, with woody notes wrapping everything in a soft, plush embrace. The cognac never fully disappears, it lingers as a subtle warmth threading through the base, keeping the drydown from becoming purely sweet. On most skin, expect 8-10 hours of wear with strong sillage that projects well into the surrounding space. Some wearers report detecting it on skin the following day.
Cultural impact
Community reception has been strong, with wearers consistently highlighting the rich cognac and warm cinnamon as standout elements. Longevity and sillage receive praise across reviews, with many noting it compares favorably to more expensive alternatives. The cognac-forward character and strong sillage draw frequent comparison to Kilian Angel's Share, though wearers note Nirvana is airier and more wearable. The warm, boozy character makes it most suited to cooler temperatures and evening occasions. Those drawn to it tend to appreciate its seductiveness and addictive quality, the kind of fragrance that lingers close to skin and gets remembered.
