The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Quercia means oak in Italian. The name says everything. Acqua di Parma introduced this fragrance in 2019 as part of the Signatures of the Sun collection. The brief was simple: evoke a morning walk through a forest of oak trees, when the air carries that particular green scent, still and mysterious before the sun fully breaks through. In Quercia, that forest imagery translates into the heart of the composition. Cedarwood and cardamom build warmth, while geranium adds a quiet floral breath underneath. The oakmoss anchors the drydown, bringing the earthiness of the forest floor to the final stages, so the walk doesn't end when you leave the trees. It stays with you on your skin for hours.
Oakmoss absolute is the ingredient that sets Quercia apart. It's the point. The complexity it brings, that earthy, green character, is what gives this fragrance its distinctive feel. The combination of cedarwood and cardamom in the heart builds an aromatic warmth, while geranium adds a soft floral undertone that keeps the composition from becoming heavy. Oakmoss absolute doesn't hide in Quercia. It anchors the drydown, adding depth that distinguishes this from other contemporary woody fragrances.
The evolution
The opening arrives bright. Calabrian bergamot and lemon hit first, crisp, immediate, Mediterranean. Pink pepper adds a quick flicker of spice. But there's green underneath almost immediately. That's the oakmoss, arriving early, giving the opening an unexpected depth. Over the next hour, the citrus recedes. Cedarwood and cardamom take over, building an aromatic warmth that feels less like walking and more like settling in. Geranium adds a quiet floral undertone, barely there, more breath than flower. The drydown is where oakmoss absolute earns its place. Patchouli brings earth, depth, the smell of roots and soil. Tonka bean softens the edges, adding warmth without sweetness. The whole composition lingers on fabric long after skin has absorbed it, its presence growing deeper on clothes than on skin.
Cultural impact
Quercia centers on oakmoss absolute as its structural core. The fragrance follows a fougère structure: citrus opening, aromatic heart, mossy base. This architecture gives the composition its depth, each layer building on the one before. Cedarwood and cardamom drive the heart, with geranium adding a soft floral breath underneath. Patchouli and tonka bean anchor the drydown, creating warmth that stays close to the skin. The overall impression feels neither trendy nor predictable. It carries something deliberate, something rooted.
