The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Lucepura entered Accendis's lineup in 2017 as part of The Blacks collection, a lineup exploring the full spectrum between light and shadow. The name itself breaks down cleanly: luce (light) + pura (pure). Maurizio Cerizza structured this around contrast, pairing cool, aromatic freshness with warm, woody depth. Sicilian citrus, French lavender, and watermelon form the bright opening. Sandalwood, French pine, and tobacco build the heart. The unusual borage note in the base is the kind of choice that signals a perfumer with something to say.
The note combination is deliberate and slightly strange. Watermelon and lavender don't traditionally keep company, but here they do, with the watermelon adding an aquatic shimmer that makes the lavender feel almost metallic at first. Borage is the real left-field move, an herb most people know from gardens or folk medicine, not perfume. On skin it reads as a quiet herbal note that keeps the drydown from settling into something too predictable. The synthetic-woody character ties everything together, giving the composition a contemporary edge that reads as either modern craftsmanship or artificial, depending on who you ask.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and immediate. Sicilian lemon and watermelon arrive together, the citrus sharp and the watermelon adding an unexpected watery sweetness. French lavender cools everything down, giving the top a clean, aromatic quality that doesn't smell like barbershop. Around the 30-minute mark, the heart starts to emerge. The watermelon fades, and French pine brings a slightly resinous herbal note. Sandalwood adds creaminess underneath. The tobacco whispers rather than shouts, a warmth that keeps the cool lavender from taking over entirely. By hour two, the drydown is underway. The pine and sandalwood anchor the composition while amber wraps around the musk in something warmer. The borage note persists as a quiet herbal thread, keeping the base from becoming too smooth. Six to eight hours of wear, intimate sillage throughout. It doesn't announce itself. It stays.
Cultural impact
Lucepura has divided opinion since its 2017 debut. Some wearers find the synthetic-woody character smooth and modern, others question whether the borage note delivers on its promise. The fragrance occupies an unusual space: constructed enough to feel contemporary, warm enough to wear close. For those who appreciate man-made materials executed with care, it's worth exploring.
