Heritage
A house, in its own words
Sarah McCartney launched 4160 Tuesdays in 2011 after stepping away from a career in beauty marketing. The decision was described as almost accidental; a period of personal reflection led her to set up a modest studio in West London where she could experiment with raw materials and share the process with friends. The first fragrance released under the house, Tokyo Spring Blossom, appeared the same year and signaled a commitment to seasonal storytelling. By 2014 the studio began offering public workshops, a move that positioned the brand as both creator and educator. In 2016 the collection grew with Old Sport, a scent that referenced classic leisure pursuits while maintaining the house’s experimental edge. Two years later, Kiss Me Quick(ly) arrived, capturing the urgency of fleeting moments in a bright, citrus‑spiced composition. The year 2020 marked a prolific period: Both Sides of Clouds explored contrast through airy top notes and grounded base accords, while The Waft From The Loft introduced a loft‑inspired, urban aroma. 2021 saw the launch of Scenthusiasm, an online platform that extends the studio’s workshop model to a global audience. 2023’s My Eau My! celebrated personal identity through a customizable scent kit, and 2024 added MCK, a tribute to the founder’s initials. The most recent 2025 releases—While We Are Asleep, Invite Me In, Ginger Snap, and No Mow May—demonstrate a continued willingness to blend narrative, humor, and unexpected ingredient pairings. Over more than a decade, 4160 Tuesdays has remained a small‑scale operation, retaining its original West London workshop space while expanding its educational reach and scent library. The house’s creative vision centers on democratic access to perfume making. Sarah McCartney believes that fragrance should be approachable, not confined to elite circles, and she structures the brand around shared learning. Workshops invite participants to handle raw materials, test accords, and understand the chemistry behind each note. This educational focus extends online through Scenthusiasm, where video lessons break down formulation steps for a worldwide community. The brand values curiosity, playfulness, and transparency; ingredient lists are disclosed, and formulations are often discussed in public talks. Rather than chasing trends, 4160 Tuesdays lets everyday experiences—such as a rainy Tuesday in West London or the scent of fresh ginger—guide its olfactory narratives. Sustainability is approached pragmatically: the studio sources both natural extracts and high‑quality synthetics, selecting materials that offer stability and ethical traceability. Community feedback shapes future releases, reinforcing the idea that perfume is a conversation rather than a monologue.
