The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
A customer asked for it. Sarah McCartney delivered. In 2020, during one of those late-night scrolls through the 4160 Tuesdays Facebook group, someone mentioned they wanted coconut, chocolate toffee, and white flowers together. Most brands would file that under interesting-try-another-time. Sarah saw something worth pursuing. By 2021, Crikey! Coconut Caramel existed. The name itself says everything about the brand's personality, playful, a little unexpected, embracing the whimsy of the request.
The challenge was making white flowers feel at home in a dessert. Magnolia can lean soapy if it wants to. Water lily can disappear entirely. Here, they anchor themselves against sticky toffee, coffee, and chocolate, not fighting the sweetness but negotiating with it. Coconut acts as the translator, bringing its own creaminess to the conversation without demanding centre stage. The real craft move is letting sweetness be the starting point, not the destination.
The evolution
The opening announces toffee hard and fast. For the first stretch, it's pure stickiness, sugary, almost burnt edges, the kind that sticks to your teeth and doesn't apologize. Coconut arrives quieter, sliding in alongside coffee and chocolate. Then the flowers show up. Not one by one but together, magnolia and water lily arriving as a pair, offering something clean against all that sweetness. The drydown is where it earns its longevity. Vanilla and musk settle close to the skin, coffee still present but warmer now, less bitter. The fragrance continues to develop gracefully, with the sweetness mellowing into a softer, more rounded profile as time passes. On fabric, it leaves a subtle trace that lingers until the next wash.
Cultural impact
Gourmand fragrances have a loyal following and a reputation for being approachable entry points. Crikey! Coconut Caramel sits comfortably in that space, sweet enough to attract, strange enough to linger in memory. The white flower integration sets it apart from standard coconut-vanilla fare. This is a fragrance that invites conversation, that makes people ask what you're wearing. It occupies a distinctive position in the artisan fragrance landscape, offering something that feels both familiar and refreshingly different.
