The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Rodrigo Flores-Roux created Corduroy in 2005, naming it after a fabric defined by texture and function. Not the flashiest material. Not the loudest. Just warmth you can trust. The brief, as with all Zirh fragrances, was approachability without apology. Something a man could reach for every day and never second-guess. Corduroy translates that philosophy into scent: cozy, tactile, and honest about what it is.
What makes Corduroy interesting is the texture play at its center. Suede and cashmere wood are unusual anchor materials, and using them alongside vanilla creates warmth without the heaviness of oud or the sharpness of leather. The spice accord (cardamom, cinnamon, davana) keeps the opening from going too sweet. The citrus top notes (coral, grapefruit, mandarin) give it a brief moment of brightness before the warmth takes over. It's a fragrance built around comfort rather than performance.
The evolution
The opening is quick and clean: grapefruit and mandarin orange bright against the skin for about thirty minutes. Then the warmth arrives. Cardamom and cinnamon don't compete with each other; they settle in together, with the suede note lending a quiet texture underneath. The lavender keeps things from getting too heavy. By the second hour, vanilla and tonka bean have emerged, blending with sandalwood, cedar, and cashmere wood into a drydown that feels worn-in. This is where Corduroy lives. Close. Soft. Present without projecting. The fragrance fades quietly rather than disappearing abruptly, leaving the final impression of warm fabric and skin, nothing more, nothing less.
Cultural impact
Corduroy never dominated the market or sparked widespread debate. It found its audience quietly: men who wanted warmth without performance, texture without loudness. The fragrance asks nothing of the room and gives everything to the wearer. In an era of bold masculine releases, it stood apart by refusing to project, earning a quiet respect among those who prefer scent to be felt rather than announced.
