Heritage
A house, in its own words
Brian Robinson founded Zirh in 1995 as a men's grooming company based in the United States. The brand started with skincare products designed for men, addressing daily grooming needs through cleansers, moisturizers, and shaving essentials. Robinson built the company with a focus on practical men's grooming rather than luxury positioning, establishing Zirh as a functional brand for everyday use. In the early 2000s, Zirh expanded into fragrance production, releasing its first cologne simply called Zirh in 2001. The timing coincided with growing interest in men's scented products beyond traditional deodorants and basic aftershaves. Around 2005, the brand introduced Corduroy, a fragrance that Kaoru "Tim" Takagi, president of Zirh International Corp., described in trade press as a foundation for developing an organic fragrance business. The Ikon fragrance, released in 2008, became the brand's signature scent and eventually spawned an entire collection. David Gandy, the British model known for his work in men's fashion, partnered with Zirh and appeared in marketing materials for the Ikon line, bringing international visibility to the brand. The partnership helped position Zirh fragrances beyond the domestic market. Over the following years, Zirh released Ikon Pure in 2012 and continued expanding the Ikon family. In 2020, the brand launched three new variations simultaneously: Ikon Oud, Ikon Chrome, and Ikon Ice, targeting different scent preferences within the men's fragrance market. The expansion demonstrated the brand's commitment to building a diversified fragrance portfolio around its core Ikon identity.
Zirh approaches fragrance creation from its roots in men's grooming, treating scent as an extension of personal care rather than a standalone luxury product. The brand developed its fragrance line to complement its existing skincare and shaving range, creating products that work within a complete grooming routine. This positioning reflects the practical philosophy Robinson established when founding the company. The Ikon collection demonstrates a commitment to creating gender-neutral fragrances that appeal broadly rather than targeting narrow demographics. The brand has embraced variety in its scent offerings, developing variations that explore different olfactory directions from fresh and cool to richer, deeper compositions. Rather than chasing fragrance trends, Zirh has built its collection around the Ikon identity, expanding it methodically over time. The partnership with David Gandy reflects the brand's interest in connecting with men who care about their appearance and grooming habits. Zirh's skincare heritage influences its fragrance development, with attention to how scents interact with clean, maintained skin. The brand has maintained its American identity throughout its history while distributing products internationally.
