The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Telethon 96 Eau Fraîche Cedrat arrived in 1996 as part of Yves Rocher's Telethon series, a collection of limited releases marked as collector's bottles. The Cedrat edition stands out for its stripped-down approach, leaning on a compact four-note list that delivers more than its size suggests. The Telethon bottles were produced in limited runs rather than as part of the standing catalog, which is how this one ends up more often on vintage shelves than in current retail. Its production was apparently discontinued, adding to its appeal for those who track down discontinued pieces.
The note list is short on paper: Orange Blossom, Iso E Super, Lemon, Musk. What's interesting is the balance. The lemon and the orange blossom open together, the citrus brightness sitting alongside a white floral softness, and the Iso E Super settles underneath, giving the composition a soft, woody undertone that runs through every phase of the wear. It's an efficient formula. Four notes, one coherent drydown, and a sweetness that comes from the musk rather than sugar. The kind of structure that reads as simple but lands more complex on skin.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are bright citrus, the lemon note sharp and immediate, with a clean floral edge from the orange blossom just underneath. The cedrat character comes through in that opening citrus, lending a slightly bitter, aromatic quality that sets it apart from a straightforward lemon scent. By the thirty-minute mark the Iso E Super takes over, and the whole composition settles into a warm, woody register that feels grounded and skin-close. The white floral from the orange blossom holds longer than expected, giving the heart a soft, rounded quality that bridges the citrus top and the musk base. The drydown is where this earns its keep: the musk becomes the main act, sweet and skin-like, and the woody warmth of the Iso E Super keeps it anchored for the rest of the wear. The citrus is gone by hour two, but the soft, musky warmth stays.
Cultural impact
As part of the Telethon series, this was never meant for the standing catalog. It was a limited release, which is part of why it now lives on vintage fragrance forums and resale sites rather than in stores. Its production was apparently discontinued, making existing bottles the only way to experience it. Among collectors who track down the Telethon series, the Cedrat edition holds a particular place for its pared-back structure and the way the four-note list delivers a coherent, wearable scent without unnecessary additions.
