The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Celt is part of Wales Perfumery's The Celts collection, a group of scents that draw from Celtic heritage and the ancient landscapes that shaped it. The name references the Celts, the people who made these islands their home for centuries. At the centre of Celtic ceremonial life sat mead, a fermented honey drink that appears in myth, ritual, and communal gathering. Smith approached Celt as an ambitious interpretation of Celtic scent, translating ancient ritual into fragrance. She returned to Wales to establish her laboratory, where the Welsh landscape continues to inform her work. Her approach involves careful attention to raw materials and the way they interact, building fragrances that echo the traditions and natural elements of the region.
The mead accord threads between sweetness and wildness without tipping into medicinal or harsh territory. The balance became the fragrance's defining anchor, and the reason the opening arrives thick and golden, unhurried in its arrival.
The evolution
Honey opens first. Thick, golden, present. It doesn't rush. Leather follows, warm, worn, settling in beside the honey like a familiar chair. Tobacco absolute arrives without announcement, threading through the mead-like sweetness with quiet authority. As the fragrance breathes into its heart, amber and ebony lock into something resinous and grounded. The drydown settles into wool-warmth, tobacco smoke, leather that stays close. One last time, the mead resurfaces, honey and fermentation together, before the whole thing settles into skin.
Cultural impact
Bold projection makes this best for cooler seasons, where resinous depth feels natural rather than intrusive. The leather-tobacco pairing brings quiet authority with animalic warmth that settles close to skin. The mead note is what makes this worth exploring, the element that brings the most distinctive quality to the composition.
