The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The name says everything: Soir Vert is a green evening made tangible. Released in 2022 by Armenian independent house Voskanian Parfums, this fragrance captures something specific, the character of Yerevan summer evenings, when the city's heat finally breaks and the air turns fresh. Tsovak Voskanian built the composition around contrast, pairing melon's juicy sweetness with grapefruit's citrus snap on one side, and rhubarb's green, almost vegetable tartness on the other. The melon and grapefruit arrive together in the opening, immediately fruit-forward and bright, while the rhubarb cuts through with its distinctive vegetable edge. There's a deliberate tension in how the sweetness and tartness balance against each other, creating something that feels both refreshing and unexpectedly layered.
What makes Soir Vert's structure interesting is the rhubarb. It's not a common centerpiece in perfumery, its tart, slightly sour green character reads more vegetable than flower, and using it alongside a juicy melon could easily tip into dissonance. The floral middle notes and ambergris-woody base keep that tension from splitting. Instead of fighting the fruitiness, they absorb it, allowing the rhubarb's green character to remain present while the florals add their own quiet presence.
The evolution
The opening hits fast, melon and grapefruit arriving together, bright and immediately fruit-forward. There's no slow build here, just a sudden wash of sweetness. Within minutes, the rhubarb asserts itself, its tart vegetable edge cutting through the melon and grounding the composition. That green phase lingers before the florals begin to surface, bringing a quieter, almost mysterious quality to the heart. The ambergris arrives later, adding a marine warmth that softens everything that came before. The drydown settles into amberwood and subtle woody notes, close to the skin, intimate. The composition evolves as it moves through its stages, with the fruit notes gradually yielding to the green and floral elements before the woody base anchors the fragrance.
Cultural impact
Voskanian Parfums presents at international events including Pitti Fragranze. Soir Vert sits within the house's broader exploration of contrast-driven compositions. The fragrance stands apart from more conventional aromatic directions through its fruit-green combinations that offer unexpected complexity. The house continues to develop compositions that explore how contrasting elements can create something distinctive.
